Bismarck's Red, White & Boom! Expands in 2026 for America's 250th Birthday

Featuring Fireworks, Live Symphony & New Drone Show • Saturday, July 4

BISMARCK, N.D. — As the nation celebrates its 250th birthday, Bismarck’s FREE 4th of July community celebration is marking the milestone with a first-of-its-kind experience.

Red, White & Boom! presented by Basin Electric Power Cooperative, will deliver a fully synchronized drone light show, fireworks display, and live performance from the Bismarck-Mandan Symphony Orchestra (BMSO) – all woven into one unified show. The drone light show will be provided by Sky Elements, a national leader in drone entertainment, paired with new, improved fireworks technology from local vendor J&J Fireworks.

“Red, White & Boom has become one of the signature moments of summer in Bismarck,” Bismarck Mayor Mike Schmitz said. “It’s a night where our community comes together to celebrate everything we love about this city and this country. The fact that it remains free and open to everyone speaks to the spirit of Bismarck. We’re proud to see this event continue to grow and bring people together in our city.”

The 2026 event will be the 32nd edition of the BMSO’s 4th of July performance, a long-standing tradition that continues to be a cornerstone of the celebration.

Due to construction at the MDU Resources Community Bowl this summer, strong collaboration among the City of Bismarck, Bismarck Public Schools, Bismarck State College, and MDU Resources Group will ensure the event will proceed safely and on schedule alongside ongoing improvements to the venue.

Fans can catch the stage performances from Bavendick Field and, new this year, on additional viewing screens throughout the venue, including the MDU Resources Community Bowl videoboard. That means guests can also enjoy the show from the bleachers, berm, and suites. Expanded traffic control and added on-site safety measures will further enhance the overall event experience.

Attendees can look forward to an expanded lineup of interactive experiences designed for all ages, including patriotic-themed games and activities that celebrate America’s 250-year legacy and highlight the role Bismarck and North Dakota have played in shaping it. Early evening festivities will create a reimagined, family-friendly festival atmosphere with hands-on activities, creative stations, and playful competitions that encourage kids and families to explore, connect, and take part together.

Additional activity details, entertainment announcements, and experience lineups will be rolling out in the weeks ahead.

A significant expansion of food and drink vendors, including Smoke Time BBQ from Jamestown, Bismarck’s own Chuggs Coffee and Everyday’s Sundae from Underwood, offer greater variety for attendees to enjoy the full experience. Concessions within the MDU Resources Community Bowl are expected to be open for additional options as well. From classic summer favorites and barbecue staples to sweet treats and refreshing beverages, attendees will have more choices than ever before.

“This event has always been about bringing the community together for a free, unforgettable 4th of July, and 2026 takes that to a new level,” Will Satler, Funatix Events General Manager said. “We’re excited to give them something they’ve never seen before.”

The event continues to shape up as a can’t-miss experience. Presenting partners include Basin Electric Power Cooperative, Bismarck-Mandan Convention and Visitors Bureau, Capital Credit Union, H.A. Thompson & Sons, MDU Resources Group, New Vision Security, and Puklich Chevrolet. Additional partners include Bartlett & West, Bismarck Parks & Recreation District, and Petro Hunt. A full list of event partners can be found on the event’s website.

Thanks as well to the Bismarck Chamber Foundation, Burleigh County, the City of Bismarck, and the Fort Abraham Lincoln Foundation for their support.
